Female Hair Loss

Right now I have a particularly full head of hair. I always have. Hairdressers have commented on it since I was a young child.

However, there are two things in my life that have made me start doing research lately about female hair loss. My maternal grandmother had VERY thin hair by the time I was born. I never knew her any other way than in her wig. She was uncomfortable with her thinning, sparse hair and wore that wig all of the time. My mother is beginning to tell me that her own hair is suddenly thinning dramatically.

Also, I have PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) and one of the possible things that can happen to your body with PCOS is basically make-pattern hair loss. Many women with PCOS have thinning and/or receding hair.

So, when I look at my genetics and my life with PCOS, I have to consider the possibility that one day I may be faced with thinning or receding hair. It’s a reality, but it is not one I am willing to just sit back and watch happen. I LOVE my hair and I want it to be think and full all my life.

LogoHair loss is a huge proponent of lowered self esteem. My ex husband started losing his hair early and at this point he is nearly bald. I know for a fact it is something is hates about himself. The difference between him and me (well, one of the many differences) is that he is afraid to look at his options.

With all of the medical advances being made now in Medical Hair Restoration , there is no reason for anyone to have to sit back and accept hair loss. There are medications, there are surgical procedures, and there are over the counter remedies. Costs are coming down, access is getting more widespread, and in all – it is becoming a very accepted cosmetic issue.
