Single Mom Finances
The finances of a single mom can get complicated. Things were simple when I was just plain single. When I was married, the only complicated parts of our financial situation were a couple of aspects that my ex brought into the picture, but he took care of the money. Now, though, I am back on my own when it comes to managing the finances, and I have my daughter in my life. Rotating annual tax exemptions, child support, split medical expenses, dealing with the costs involved in the house I still co-own with my daughter’s father – these are all things that make my budget feel very unstable. Add to that my current working situation. I chose to try and stay home with my daughter one more year, so I am 100% working freelance.
It’s a juggling act in every way. I could probably benefit from implementing budgeting software. I think that since in the past my finances have always been so very simple, I have put off bringing technology into the mix. And I am pretty tech savvy. I suppose it’s just stubbornness on my part.
Of course, once I actually set a rigid budget, I will have to stick to it. That will be a whole new battle.
