Freelance Side Jobs Keep Me Hopping

My former boss still hires me to do design work on a freelance basis. He is currently involved in a number of truly interesting ventures and I love being involved on the periphery. I get to work on the most fascinating jobs; everythign from non-profit foundations to new consumer products.

One of the projects is selling packed products to sell in airport gift shops. Products like mixed nuts and various other salty snacks and candy have a good markup in airports, because people are often looking for food to take onto an airplane. He’s got me designing the labels. One task that tends to come along with the design of such product packaging is finding suitable vendors to print the packaging or labels.

Companies like Label World specialize in the high volume label printing and since they have a presence on the internet, I can easily find them and request quotes for a custom label job while still working from home in my freelance situation. Years ago, I pretty much had to locate companies like this via trade catalogs or work of mouth.
