MRSA Blood Test Approved

As a mother who has had to deal with a child who had three separate MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) outbreaks, I am happy to see that a new blood test has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The BD GeneOhm StaphSR Assay is a rapid test and means you do not have to way days anymore to have a culture sent off for testing. This test can be run in about two hours. It makes accurate treatment a whole lot easier.

My daughter has not had another outbreak in years. Although she could have picked the staph infection p anywhere from grocery cart handles to a playground, there is a good chance she was getting it at her old pre-school. She has not had any problems since she started attending her new Pre-K class and that is even though she has frequent cuts due to scratching at her eczema. Poor kid.

She has become a pr at hand washing, too.
