Do More Than Take Out the Trash

How many chores to the men in your home have? How many do they do? There are no men in my home anymore, but when I was married, I was lucky if I could get the guy to clean the gutters a couple of times a year and pick up his own underpants off the floor. He expected a perfect home, perfect yard and perfect family, but he was not willing to life a finger to make that a simpler reality.

Well, it turns out that my situation was not so much out of the norm. A report by the Council on Contemporary Families was released today and it indicates that even though men are not slacking around the house (housework and childcare) as much as they have in years past, they are still not pulling their weight in light of the fact that more women than ever are working outside the home and putting in longer hours at the office.
Apparently, the gap really widens when it comes to what some call “invisible” household tasks like scheduling children’s medical appointments, buying gifts for birthday parties, arranging holiday gatherings, and the like.
And, some experts suggest that more sex would motivate the men to do more work around the house. Really? Do you want me to go there? Have the men ever stopped to think that if women could finagle more sex, we would? Those men: all talk and no action.
