Another Growth Spurt?

I am in awe. My daughter appears to be having yet another growth spurt. She is quite literally eating as much as I eat at meals, plus she required additional snacks and some more protein at bedtime.

I was talking to one of my best friends, who has a daughter 2 month older than Gigi. Gigi is 2 inches taller and 5 pounds lighter than my friend’s daughter. My kid is shooting up like a weed and her body fat is not keeping up with her. I have pins in her waistbands and am seriously considering only buying adjustable waist clothing for her from now on.

In a period of my life when I often seriously consider weight loss pills, it is so mind boggling for me to watch my daughter eat and eat and eat and just get thinner and thinker…and taller, too. I feel most days like I am trying to fuel a little machine.

She complains that her bones hurt. I asked her doctor and he said that with the growth, “growing pains” can be very real. He indicated the pain would be in her knees and elbows mostly. I asked her to be more specific about where her bones hurt and it is indeed in her joints. I have been reading online, though, and most sites say the pains are concentrated in the muscles and not the joints, and that they are from activity. I have no idea who to believe.

All I know is that I am thrilled summer will come soon in Florida, because Gigi is growing right out of her long pants. Her shorts should not be a problem.
