Clueless Parent Award

“Her, no, she did absolutely nothing, nothing. If she did, the school or I would know.”
– Blanca Saravia

The above quote comes from a Fort Worth mother whose 15-year-old daughter is accused in court of being the “enforcer” of a teen prostitution ring. This is a mother who honestly believes she would know if her daughter was up to no good. This is a mother wearing a hefty pair of blinders and a massive cloak of denial.

Three teens are being charged as adults for human trafficking. The kids are allegedly part of the Varrio Central gang. The gang is said to beat and gang-rape runaway teenage girls until they agreed to become prostitutes. The runaways are then supposedly sold for sex at a Fort Worth apartment for $60.

The prostitution ring has been operating for two years.

Parents, I know you love your kids. I know you believe in this and want to think only the best about them. I’m with you on that, but I have tell you that you are not doing anyone any favors by turning a blind eye to trouble your kids may be in at any given time. You need to face it full on and help them deal with it. If that means involving authorities, jail, probation, or treatment programs – so be it. At least your child will be getting the tough love that might stop the problems and prepare them to live life as successful, productive adults. If your child is a criminal now, they will likely grow up to be adult criminals. Why would you not want to head that off at the pass if you can?
