The Family Piano

My dad shipped the family piano down here to Florida and it is sitting in my sister’s living room. Now, both m y daughter and my nephew are asking for piano lessons. My sister and I both took lessons for years on end when we were growing up and I thought it would be nice if I could refresh my skills and teach my daughter the basics on my own.

I found a free e-mail newsletter that doles out piano lessons over the course of 101 lessons, or issues I should say. The newsletter takes a look at general Piano lessons & piano chords, complete with frills and runs and all sorts of techniques to make your piano playing sounder fuller and more nuances. Duane Shinn, who authors the newsletter, believes that once you master chords, you can add rhythms and styles to enable you to play endlessly exciting, both to hear and to play. Shinn also offers lessons via CD and DVD, but this free newsletter is the perfect beginning – especially for someone who needs to begin AGAIN, like me.

And so, here’s to the hope that our old family piano will inspire a new generation to musical firsts and creativity without limits.
