Inspirational Movies for Kids

I was just going through my daughter’s DVD collection, sorting out titles, seeing if there is anything we can pass along to younger children, and double-checking before I pass on her wish list for new movies to her grandparents. It made me start to think more about very few appropriate movies and shows are out there for kids, especially if you have a strong opinion about teaching morals and standards that are in line with Christian beliefs.

That reminded me about an organization I’ve written about in the past called CarAngel Ministries. That’s the group to which you can donate a car, boat, or pretty much any vehicle and they will use the proceeds to finance their programs. Those programs include an anti-drug documentary, prison literacy programs, and an entire series of free children’s DVDs that they produce and distribute. Obviously, it is the kids’ DVDs that made the mental connection for me between sorting through my daughter’s movies and CarAngel Ministries.

The Adventures of Donkey Ollie is a 5-episode animated series on par with movies made for Disney, Sony, and Mattel when it comes to quality and style. The difference is that Ollie and his friends live in the times of Jesus, learn powerful moral lessons and teach us about Christ and his works.

CarAngel distributes the DVDs for free to churches, preschools and other children’s groups. They are completely funded by the car donations people make to their organization and therefore they never charge for the movies.

I’m actually watching Journey to Jerusalem online right now. The DonkeyOllie.com website has previews of two of the titles. One of the episodes that was produced is even a full-length feature animated in Animated in HD.

My daughter attends a Christian school and I eager to get the Donkey Ollie movies into their library! Having watched some of them online, I can attest that they are inspiring as well as fun! It’s ironic to think that an old car to lead to something as great as Donkey Ollie.
